Following the creation the new men’s models in the Classico collection, Ulysse Nardin has recently launched a lady’s Classico model that features an exotic bird made of jewels and colored enamel. And the rest of the dial is paved with dazzling diamond.Personally, the dial design does not grow on me. It is a bit gaudy and blase to me, though Ulysse Nardin must originally want to create an emotional lady’s watch.

The case, sized at 35mm, is crafted from 18k white gold. While I quite resist the dial design, I find the nice jewelry touch of this watch-The lugs and the bezel are also set with diamonds. I love the lug shape and the crown that has a ring of sapphires around it. And the watch comes with a blue alligator strap that matches the blue enamel and the sapphires perfectly. By the way, such color matching is very popular nowadays.

This new Ulysse Nardin lady’s watch is powered by an Swiss automatic movement that has a nice decorated 22k gold rotor. Via the sapphire crystal on the case back, you can have a very clear view of it. Personally, I love to spend more time in admiring the movement than the watch dial.

I expect that the next Classico lady’s model from Ulysse Nardin would be give more imagination and to be more emotional

As world famous crystal watch maker, Swarovski makes nice fashion watches as well. The Octea watches launched last year impressed lots of people with the excellent design. They were beautiful fusions of the brand’s superb crystal craftsmanship and ladies’ sport watches.My brother loved the design very much , but unfortunately  Swarovski did not make a men’s version.

For 2010, Swarovski has come up with a new Octea model featuring an orange tone which is nicely applied to the dial, bezel and the strap. The new watch, sized at 39mm, is crafted from stainless steel and has a number of crystals set in it. I think its rotating diver’s bezel is really unique to the watch world with Swarovski crystals on it. The watch design is basically the same as previous models, but the watch itself looks much more sporty. The swan logo at the 12 o’clock position is always my favorite details. Now it looks same attractive in orange. And there is another Swan logo on the crown as a cabochon. The watch is completed by a  steel bracelet or a rubber strap. Both straps  have been set with faceted stones that set off those on the bezel. Beating inside the watch is a Swiss quartz.

I am sure few women can refuse a sporty, cool yet affordable watch like this. And men can also take it home if they do not resist those faceted stones. As far as I know the Swarovski Octea Sport watches normally goes for about  $800 – $900 in price. And I think the price of the new model will be in the same range.

Watch brands put a number of effort, money and time to create new case shapes and dials that are nice-looking and interesting. Nothing is impossible especially when it comes to ladies watch field

.Well Nina Ricci has created the N030 watch that features elongated lug and small ellipse case surrounded by another bigger ellipse. The case has the crown set on the its apex, The neat dial, with just 4 hour markers(at each quarter),three hands and the name of “Nina Ricci”, comes with several color/style options including standard white, white with machine engraving, mother of pearl, mauve and chocolate. The 4 hour markers are available in Roman numerals, baton markers and the letters of “NINA”. I really like this artistic watch as it is also very easy read.

I can not help but imagine how this beautiful watch looks like on the wrist. I am sure it will match a woman’s hand nicely given its unique design. The watch case is crafted from stainless steel and is meticulously polished. It also available in PVD coated. rose gold plated, and diamond decorated version. What is more, there are at least six different strap options available. I think the reason behind these so many options is that Nina Ricci want to make owners of N030 feel that the watch they have is unique.

The N030 watches are powered by  Swiss Ronda quartz movement.The dial is covered by a mineral crystal with special sapphire treatment that ensure better resistance to scratches. But I think this collection need a better name to match the beautiful designs.

It is said that these watch was manufactured through the license issued by one high-end division of Timex watches. I do not know what does Gancino mean. The dial loos pretty cool with the guilloche pattern and the Ferragamo logo.

The new Salvatore Ferragamo Gancino Charms ladies watches are powered by reliable quartz movements. I think they will be sold at the Ferragamo shops with expensive price tags.

The workshop of Christophe Claret is proud of its exclusive machines that you can not find in other places. The case, composed of around 67 parts, is constructed via their 17 axis cutting machine. The accuracy of this machine could be well compared with the dexterity of human hands. But thinking of the water resistance, the construction can only rely on the machine. As I have not seen any titanium watch from Christophe Claret, I am now quite looking forward to Dual Tow with a titanium case.

Many people concern the durability of the rubber belts that are responsible for time telling. As we know, the rubber ages with time. Therefore, it is scientific to speculate the belts used on the Dual Tow may degrades and become unusable with time. To address this problem, Christophe Clare has conducted not a few tests to show that the belts are reliable. To my knowledge, Classic Slim is the brainchild of  Ralph Lauren and Richemont. And Ralph Lauren contributed a lot in the design. What is more, it carried on the brand’s refinement and extension of the watch brand

If you are a watch lover, you may have noticed that vintage watches from different brands look quite similar. Two my knowledge, nearly 90% of the vintage watch offerings in last decades of 20th century  showed  no big characters. Except some tiny differences in details, they were basically the same. Actually, each brand could be special if they put effort in creative designs as the past decade indicated. Unfortunately, the fashion of retro has brought the problem of lots of similar watches with traditional styles. Honestly, traditional styles are classic and elegant, but the problem is that when many brands have them, you will definitely feel boring.

As known to the watch industry, Zenith has had very tough times, and their new CEO Jean-Frederic Dufour made many promises that he failed to fulfill. And now,  it seems that Zenith’s return to its roots does not work well either. I can not figure out why it has to be like what it is today?

Recently, Zenith excitedly released the Elite 681 Ultra-Thin watch. But as Zenith borrows too much from other brands that make retro ultra thin watches, this new offering does not look as exciting as I’d expected-It is lack of its own characters though it looks fine and elegant. Again, Zenith fails to create its new identity given the fact that this watch feels so similar to Vacheron Constantin watches offerings of retro touch . The case is 40mm wide and 3.8mm thick and houses an automatic movement.

I feel very disappointed due to high expectation from this brands. Anyway, I will keep an eye on their following new watch offerings this year.

Like many people on this planet, I appreciate the exceptional art style of Van Cleef & Arpels a lot. The collections contains five models that are named Berylline, Ruby-Throated, Violet-Crowned, Blue-Throated and Calliope respectively. The pictured are two out of the five. And each model is limited to just 8 pieces world wide.

The case design are in fact same as the butterfly series. Sized at 38mm, the case are done in platinum and have diamonds set on the bezel and the lugs. The dials have stained glass plate and feature colorful hummingbirds images. Not a few precious gems are applied to make the dials more splendid. These watches also share same movement- Caliber 830P mechanical movement as the butterfly watches

They are absolutely breathtaking creatures that you would have expected from this respectable brand. Now I really wish I had enough money to own one of these pieces.
